Love God and use money

Hopefully you’ll soon be earning more money than ever before! It’s a good idea to establish good money management habits early on. But what does that look like? First and foremost, it starts with realising that God owns every cent. The Lordship of Jesus Christ extends over every part of our lives – wallets and all! He cares about what you do with the 100% you earn, not just the portion you give away as a tithe.

How you use your money reveals what your heart values. “The love of money causes all kinds of trouble” Paul warns us. “Some people want money so much that they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain.” 1 Timothy 6:10 (CEV) If you’re not careful, it’s easy to let your heart fixate on money instead of God.

Expressing your goals in Dollars

To be a good steward, you need to have a plan. As strange as it sounds, having a budget and tracking what you spend is a freeing experience! What financial goals do you have for your first year of work? Saving for a car? Having a holiday? Giving to a ministry you care about? Setting a budget is your first step to reaching these goals.

You also need to monitor your actual expenditure to make sure your budget becomes reality Before you can do that, you need to have a budget.
